The struggle is trying to live up to everyones expectations is school, I am expected to alway get good grades. My parents want me to always get a B+ average, but sometimes no matter how much I try I cannot seem to get there. I will just have to keep working for my goal and I struggle but I will stay strong.

    - to preserve from extinction or oblivion: to perpetuate one's name.

    4. President Lincoln was talking about the civil war, and how the Slaves had no freedom or rights. This compares to how my parents always try to control what I do. Like I have no rights or that they have taken a civil liberty away from me as the south did with the slaves. This doesn't compare to the same degrees, because I still get liberties unlike the slaves who had none. It also compares because my sisters gave me respect just like how the north did with the slaves. One difference is that my sisters and my parents did not go to war over it like in the civil war.

    4. The civil war is referred in this paragraph. This was a hard time for everyone even the people who lived near because they had to support people who were wounded and hungry. There the ones who struggled trying to get food anyways. I had a great struggle, well I have two. One was last year in 7th grade when my grades drastically went down and I knew why, it was because my missing work had stacked up to the sealing. Eventually I had some of the work done. The second great struggle I had was moving from school to school and that was both hard on me and my brother but we pulled through because we stuck together.

    4. The "Great Struggle" that Abe Lincoln was talking about was the Civil War. The country was fighting among themselves and the government looked like it was going to collapse, so Abe Lincoln was giving a speech about what was happening. I can relate this to my life because in the past few years, I have lost about 10 or more close relatives to cancer, and it causes distress in my family. We are still dealing with deaths today, but it made me feel like my world was collapsing, especially when my grandpa and my cousin passed away.

    3. My opinion: Perpetuated means something that you don't understand, and that you get frustrated, and you can't seem to get what it means. The real definition means make (something typically an undesirable situation or an unfounded belief) continue indefinitely.
    4. "Great struggle, your working has hard as you possibly can, and won't give up, until you succeed on what your trying to do. Maybe president Lincoln was in a hard time, but he had to get through either way, and he did his best to to that. I have had many great struggles. Working on my grades and trying to make them the best that they can be, I do the best that I can. When I took a look at my teacher ease one night I saw that I had a B in one class. I told myself that I knew that I could do much better. I pushed myself until the last minute of the marking period. I got that grade up to a A-. I was very proud of myself because the grade went up.

    4. The great struggle that President Lincoln is talking about is kind of a war. Like people not agreeing and because of that it leads to them now getting along. I always have "great struggles" like this. I don't always agree with people and I don't always get along with everyone. And its hard to go along with something when you can't agree or get along. But if you put effort and at least act happy or try to, you can get through it.

    4. President Lincoln is taking about a great struggle. The great struggle he is talking about is slavery and the civil war. He wants to stop it and he is stopping it, the civil war ended slavery and he is being humble about it. he is changing people minds. I've had a great struggle before. I've played hockey for years now, and I'm on a travel team now. But last year, we were playing in a playoff game and we were down by 3 goals, it was 7-4. I had got a elbowing penalty. I hopped out of the box, got a break away and scored. People were happy but no one thought we were going to win, there wasn't enough time left. All the sudden, I got another break away goal and people were gaining hope. No one thought we could actually do it. With 15 seconds left, I got another break away, I saw an open corner, and scored. I had tied the game and because of that we got to play the next playoff game at Joe Louis Arena. Everyone was congratulating me but I was very humble I was told, I just said thank you and went on.

    4. President Lincoln is referring to how people weren't agreeing and getting along. Comparing this to my life, which has endured many great struggles, I would compare this to when my group of friends basically split up. We weren't getting along at all because of something really dumb. I just wished it would go back to how it used to be when we were all best friends. We were avoiding the situation and just not talking to each other and eventually we had to make an effort to change what had happened. When we actually did something about what happened we became friends again.

I gave it to her and when I was done moving she had to give it back. When I went over there she lost it at here mom's house. Then two weeks later she gave it back. She ran in screaming and I have a little brother and sister in the car, I was 10 how was i supposed to settle down a 5 year old girl from screaming and my little brother. I tried to carry in him with his car seat. I was scared to because my mom was saying I'll be right back and I know we mean the world to my mom so It was hard. These ladys walk out and I don't know what to think they take us in. We were standing with all of these strangers and finally when my grandparents came and picked us up it was so much better. The real definition is make (something, typically an undesirable situation or an unfounded belief) continue indefinitely.
    4. He means "great struggle" as in the struggle to be a slave/servant to God and that will be certainly very hard. He is also talking about the struggle it was to make this country a country. It took a LOT of blood, sweat, and tears but it came out to be a great country. Lincoln does not want all there hard work and all the terrible things that happened to go away because the country just didn't work. This relates to my struggle of when my dog got hit by a car. It was very sad and we all were devastated because we thought she might not live. It was very hard for us, but my dad realized how sad we were and he saved her by paying $2,000 to just amputate her leg instead of putting her down. But it was a very big struggle trying to not be sad every second of the day. And my dad would have been angry and my sister and I would have been very sad if my dog, Noelle, died after we payed so much, we saved her life, and my sister and I grew up with her. So that is what Abe Lincoln is trying to say that it was a big struggle to get this far and now our country better not just collapse.

All of them fight with each other all the time so it was not a big surprise that they started fighting with each other when it was time for them to go to bed. The oldest out of all of them is Liam, who is autistic was threatening Joe with his hockey stick, during this time I was putting our dog outside because she was barking. When I came back in Liam had hit Joe on the head with the hockey stick and he was bleeding all over the floor. They struggled to gain the rights that they believed they deserved to have. In the end, they gained those rights, and President Lincoln is hoping that the people of America preserve the rights that they fought for. My great struggle was when my parents and I had a rather large disagreement over the summer. I, at the time, was using the home computer to write with my friend, for hours at a time. My parents believed that I was misusing and overusing the computer. I didn't think so. We argued about it for days and days, resulting in high tempers and lots of yelling. In the end they cut me a little slack, and I kept writing to and with my friend until I got my laptop when the school year started up again. Overall, the conflict is resolved, but at times there are small flare-ups of that same conflict. I hope that we will stick to our agreements that we made in order to preserve the peace in my family.

We originally made this country in order to gain freedom, liberty and the rights we have today. After we won those rights, we have struggled to preserve them into a free government. I feel that we still have trouble in perpetuating our rights, for it would just not be right to lose the very things we founded this country on. I can't really single out one thing out there but I feel that life itself is a little troublesome. My life has had many problems Including, getting lost in woodlands (more then once). I just hope that I can tough it out and do whatever God has Intended me to do. America also has ups and downs in similar ways as to the many lives that founded it.

4.The great struggle that President Lincoln is referring to is that we as the united nation of america should understand the pain and fear that our nation is going through at this moment. Not only at this particular moment the past and the future all counts because the past will never come back as a flashback to us.In my life what I have gone through is very painful. When I was a young child I have been hurt, lost, and many other things but that the worst thing that happened was one summer at a mud bog they had a corn maze, me and my friend cassia decided that it would be easier if we cut through the corn and took a shortcut, but we must have taken a wrong turn because about an hour later we found that we were lost, and I didn't help that both of our parents were both drunk, and they had no idea we were gone. After about two hours we decided to just keep walking strait and we finally got out after about three and a half hours of walking.

    4. President Lincoln was probably referring to slavery because back then It was a gigantic problem back in the 1800's. He wants to end slavery because he thought it was wrong to discriminate other human beings. He preserved the slaves owners to let the slaves go, but that didn't go well at all. The humble slaves never really got the chance to protest against this, but president Lincoln never gave up and he finally let the slaves go free. He finally got the slaves free so they could be free run away try to reunite with their kids and grandparents.

A great struggle I remember from my life was when I was in 6th grade. My grades were dropping really low, and most of my homework wasn't getting done. After a few weeks of my poor performance my parents met with my teacher to think of ways I could improve. My mom and I went through all of my notebooks and binders and organized them, then she set up a homework schedule so I would have plenty of time to finish my assignments. After a few weeks my grades were improving drastically. It was hard, but I managed to pull off all A's and a B that marking period.

    4. The "great Struggle" Abraham Lincoln was talking about was, slavery. A great struggle I had was when I played a baseball tournament in South Gate. We had made it to the championship game but the team we were going to be versing had played an extra game in their bracket. Since they had an extra game we had to play them twice. The first game was to decide if we were going to the championship game, if we lost they would have won the tournament. We ended winning that game and had to play them again after a thirty minute break. The second game was a close game when they brought in there best pitcher, he wasn't anything special that we haven't faced before so we put the bat on the ball and scored some runs. After beating them twice it was a great victory since the odds were stacked against us highly and they had a "ringer" team, where they took the best players form all around and not just where there located at.

It is a big struggle because without money its sort of hard to survive. Just think about it going into a school year knowing your moms laid off from her job. True story but luckily the p.c.s found a spot for her and she has a job but it is still a hard struggle having my dad work two jobs. A great struggle I have had was when many people in my family got very sick. Then my grandpa died in the middle of the night. Many people died during the slavery times and the revolutionary war was going on. The people that died were someones family and I lost many people that I love in my family at one time. Just like the many people that lost brothers, fathers, uncles, grandfathers, and husbands, and I lost many people that are close to me. It was very hard for me to understand what had happened, because I was very young when this happened. I struggled very much when I was hearing about the people that I love and that they are not here anymore.

This "great struggle" compares to a time when I was in 7th grade. All the students recently got laptops. The class had to come up with some punishments if we took advantage of the independence we were given. We were in charge of our consequences for our actions. I had a friend who had problems, parents just got divorced, got in a fight with her best friend, hurt people when she wasn't trying to and didn't know how to handle it. She was at war with herself trying to figure out so much at one time. She couldn't get a good grip on what she wanted. It was like she was having a Civil War with herself. I was only a baby, so I didn't understand what was going on. But as I get older, things get harder. I haven't seen by birth dad sense I was 3, and my adopted dad left about 5 years ago, I had to grow up without a dad, without my birth parents. And then when my brother was 12, he decided he wanted to leave, I had nothing left, my life was going down hill, I always told myself there was nothing I could do. But now, I'm making better choices, and as much as things may be hard on me, I will stay positive.

Like last year a coach kept telling me I had no confidence, when he really was the one breaking it down. It made me really upset, it was almost as if he had lost faith in me. I ended up coming over that little wall, it was just in the indoor season. Now It has made me better and stronger. This year one of the teams I'm on is not very good. We have high confidence and one other player and I carry the team on our backs (not literally). Nobody liked the way the last indoor season went , my parents were mad and frustrated. 4. Abraham Lincoln was referring to the American Revolution. It was a long hard battle for our freedom. Many people died because of the war. Not only did they die because of guns and swords but because of the cold and the lack of food. Many families went through hard times because their fathers, sons, and husbands were away. Houses were burned to the ground because of the arguing and fighting about which side was the right side to be on. Patriots fought for the freedom for hundreds of people. They wanted to be separated from the king. Once the war was over the United Stated still had problems. There was no money and the government was falling apart. There was no structure and no one knew what to do.
In the past couple of years I have been pushed into the ring with some tough things. In January 2010 my grandma passed away. She was very sick. It was a big blow to to my whole family and I cried for months. In April of that year I was attacked by a dog and I got 7 stitches. The next month we put my horse down at the age of 30. The vet later told us that she had cancer. The rest of that year passed but around Christmas a man the my mother had guardianship over became very ill. He was down syndrom and he was getting old. He was a part of our lives before i was born and he was very special to all of us. By February he had past away at 52. After Mike had died my Grandma was sent into surgery but made it out alive and well. Most of my family from Illinois came up ti Michigan to visit her in the hospital. In October me and my mom got the news that my aunt had died. She was a diabetic and he was blind. They told us her heart had failed. The day i found out my mom came and picked me up and we drove 7 hours down to Shelbyville, Illinois for her funeral. My family was in tears when we got to my grandma's house. The last of my struggles was just last Friday when my cat Leisha died. She was 10 1/2 and she was the last living memory of the times when my parents were happy together. I cried so much. She was one of my best friends and I miss her like crazy. My life has been up and down for a while but I have such great friends and such a great family that helps me get through the hard parts and shows me the good and the happy that life can offer.

In my life, during a baseball game the other team was a lot bigger and stronger than us. The game was really far apart as they were winning 11-4. The 6th inning was the best. We scored the limit of 7 and tied the game. I was pitching in the 7th inning. My heart was pounding really fast! There were two outs and I needed three. When I threw the ball it came right back to me. It went behind. My Short Stop ran up to it and picked it up and threw it to first. The inning was over. The 3rd batter was me and I was sweating. When the first two batters were on 2nd and 3rd my team was happy. When I was struggling that year I knew this why my chance. I swung the bat nailing the into left field... The great struggle I am going through right now is trying to get all my missing work turned and getting my grades back up to a B. 4. When he said this quote the thought of the problem was the American Revolution. Becoming a government all by themselves. Making all the rules fair and equal to everyone it can be a challenge. People had to fight so very hard to get where they were. If they gave up then the British would surely pick back up were they started. The americans couldn't let that happen. The people fought through it and that was one of the many great struggles when our nation first was being born.
A Struggle that I had and are still having is fighting with my dad. I feel like were at a constant war against each other but it is getting better. We may have fought about little things but those little things turned into big things and they caused issues. I stopped complaining and it seemed to stop the fights and he stopped complaining and the fights stopped. I'm not sure why but I'm glad it did because I missed talking to him like a normal person. That is still and was one of my major struggles.

Struggling for our right and liberties is not just a fictional thing, but something we all account for. Meaning everyone including slaves should be independent like the people. It reminds me of a time when I was outside with some friends and they wanted to throw rocks at this guys house but it was kind of a struggle to weather go with the group or not. But because it was not right, you and only you have the power to say no. Abraham had the power to say no to the wrong things that America was doing. The power, and the way we respect and lead our people, is up to every individual grouped together as one. It's your responsibility not stand around and let people continue to do wrong things. Every thing you do to help someone else will last forever. And not everything bad has to happen or be the way forever.

But I remember if I do that then I have no freedom, therefore its just best to do what it is I have to do. This connects because Lincoln had to do what he had to do to make everything equal.

    4. The great struggle Lincoln is referring to is the fact that unifying a nation completely is very hard if not impossible, because of race, religion and even certain things they believe the government should do, or if they even want a government. Lincoln was saying that it is incredibly hard to get a nation to all agree to one set of rules (The Constitution), or all become unified and agree they are one nation. I also believe the one about the liberties is back when the country was being founded certain groups of people didn't have liberties or at least not many of them, That was challenging to get everyone the liberties they deserve. A struggle i have is keeping all of my grades up, which his barley anything compared to unifying a country but it is still a struggle for me. Although this is a very small challenge to over come, especially compared to all the problems President Lincoln had to fix or mend to, it is still a struggle because it just is very hard to get all my work done and turned in, even though I have been getting most of it in.

    4. The great struggle President Lincoln is referring to is the Civil War. It is a priority one topic that needs to be solved quickly! One time when I went through a great struggle is when my dog murphy died. I know it wasn't like a person dying but It was still morbid. I have gone to funerals before and payed my respects but never really cried. Except for Carly's funeral but that was my first real in-my-face this dog you will never see again approach and I remember days where I would be just crippled in bed crying because I wanted my puppy back. People don't really realize what death can do to a person unless it's happened to them. Some mornings I would forget that he was gone and I would wake up and go downstairs and get a cup of dog food and dump it on the floor where the bowl used to be by mistake and I would just sit there just thinking about him. It was the biggest impact and struggle I have ever had to deal with before andI will never forget Murphy.

    4. A great struggle that Lincoln can be talking about, is war. He can be saying that it is really bad right now and it may be bad for a while, but it will eventually come to an end. He also can be talking about when you die if you go to heaven or not. And making it to heaven, is a sturggle because you have to be a good person and follow God's laws. A struggle that I have had was when my Grandma died. She died all of a sudden and it was shocking and depressing to know that I couldn't just call her up any day I wanted to. Her death was also hard, because everybody around me was sad. My mom, dad, sister, cousin, aunt, everyone. I hated the feeling of knowing that she wasn't coming back, and that my family never got to say goodbye. This compares to Lincoln's struggles, because each problem was personal and hurt him and I. If it wasn't important to him then he wouldn't have written a speech about it. But, his problem may have been a little more important. His struggle may have effected all of the colonies. The struggle I faced was throughout my family and some of my Grandma's friends. More people may have been hurt by the things Lincoln was talking about, but the feeling is mutual.

    3. Perpetuated from my perspective is something on going or something that you struggle or dislike that keeps going or never ending. The actual definition of perpetual is to make something, typically an undesirable situation tha continues indefinitely.

    4. My opinion of what President Lincoln is referring to as the "Great Struggle" is the struggle to end slavery. President Lincoln helped end slavery so that is the reason I thought he was referring the "Great Struggle" and he struggled with slavery many times and worked to en it. President Lincoln struggled with ending slavery, many people did not like the idea of slavery ending and President Lincoln worked through those moments to end slavery. Slavery wasn't just a struggle with President Lincoln, also the struggle was with people who used slaves for work and ending slavery would hurt them economically. Slavery was a "Great Struggle" for the slaves even, slaves slaves would not have to work for anybody anymore, they would be there own person then. Many people were (like Abraham Lincoln) were with ending slavery and This struggle to end it took a long time to end slavery and to get the slaves to be there own persons. The "Great Struggle" against slavery was very continuous and hard to get everyone on their side to end it, but they had to go to war but that ended it.

    4. President Lincoln was referring to the Civil war, which was all about slavery being abolished. It reminds me of my struggle with my cousin in the hospital last April. My cousin had been living with us for his four years through high school since he was having troubles at his school. He graduated last year, and spent the summer with his mother in Dearborn. From there, we thought that he would get a job, or at least apply for one, and get his college set up. Well, he is very lazy and needs to be told to do those things, and his family is the last place he needs for that, because they have a very lazy life style there. With all the inactivity at his house, he fell into depression and stared forward for two days there. There was actually something wrong in his brain, because he accidentally took to much allergy medicine (his allergies are really bad). Anyway, it was a struggle for me seeing him in that hospital bed because I couldn't make up my mind if he's just being extremely lazy and hopeless, because we tried hard to get him to look to the future, but also sad for him that this happened and his family are just a bunch of lazy people not helping him at all.

One of my greatest struggles was when my family friend and old babysitter died of an overdose. We were really close, I loved her. She had two kids, both really young, and I love them. They are like the little brother and sister I never had. Struggling not to be too sad and think about it too much, and struggling to try not to think about her funeral, seeing her for the last time in her casket; they are both hard to do Before she passed away, my mom told her that I loved her and missed her, and she ended up passing away near that day. Before that we never got to see each other, because she was in jail and recovery places on and off. I really miss her, and her kids will later on, right now they probably didn't know whats going on because their really young. We had a lot of great memories I will never forget. Our struggles are similar in the way that we had to stay strong, and keep pushing forward.
